Fashion Week...

What crossed your mind when you hear the word "Fashion Week"??

"High fashion.. Famous designers.. Runways.. Super models..."

But those things do not apply to HFW (Hijabi Fashion Week).

It's not always about high fashion and pictures full of super models on the runways..

Here, in HFW, we basically share our hijab styles, our creativity and skills in term of Fashion: on how to mix-and-match clothes, make a 'not suitable for hijab' clothes become a hijab-ready outfit, showing our own signature hijab style and new ways in wrapping headscarf, etc.; and hoping from that event we can inspire and learn from each other.

HFW will be showcasing real life Muslim women, whether they are a fashionista or not, wearing designers' clothes or not, a professional model or not, take their picture on the runways or just in the comfort of their own bedrooms, by professional photographer or by their own... ^_^

On this May 2011 Hijabi Fashion Week, any and every-Muslim women are invited and can participate..

For now, just sit back, relax and enjoy watching our special guest for the upcoming HFW, a fashionista and designer, Dina Tokio-O. She will be showing off her outfits style, from work wear to weekend wear and many more in between this May.

Ina's Scarf

Soon, there will be one more option to choose hijabs...

Indonesia, as one of the hubs for Muslimah Fashion and has many creative talented Islamic Fashion designers, is growing fast to show off to the world what the distinctive styles it has. Irna Mutiara, as one of the designers (designer of Irna la Perle), just launched her style blog for her NEW scarves' design, Ina's Scarf.

The scarves she design will be using local products craftmenship, such as, woven fabrics, knitting, batik, and handprints.

I'm so glad that the brand pointed out the Indonesian distinctive tradition style which is so famous for its rich and bold colors, unique fabrics and prints...

Combined with Irna Mutiara's creativity and edgy kind of style in design, hopefully this brand will contribute to the wide selection of quality hijabs for Muslim women, and also will make us, Indonesian people, proud on their own tradition/culture.

Girls, this time I just want to share what I find lately. My favorite hijab-style fashion icon, Yuna Zarai, performed at the U.S. last night.

Actually in the past few days, there were some posts that I wrote and I wanted to share with you, but somehow, my blogger's draft was always in error and I couldn't publish anything... So, I try again this time, hoping this post can be published.. :)

Petite and stylish, Yuna Zarai scurried onto center stage at Webster Hall last night to play her opening set. While most of the audience members knew the main act, R&B singer Raphael Saadiq, it was the first time many of them heard of the young Malaysian songstress. It was only her second performance ever in NYC.

After taking her place on a stool behind the microphone, she softly tuned her guitar before all the lights — and eyes — were on her. When she looked up, a huge smile formed on her face. "Hello!" she said exuberantly, quickly following up with a girly laugh.

How can I missed out these amazing looks ?!

Intan Suhana Juhari a.k.a Sue Anna Joe is a young mother of a baby boy from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has many blogs which she uses as a media to express her 'multi-talents': from a photographer, the owner of design and photography studio to a mother and a house-wife... And about few months ago, she entered the college again.. as a student!

She loves to dress-up, and her style always makes me amaze. The way she wraps her hijab and mix-and-match her outfit, and her shoes, are just so awesome.. And, she looks confident in it. Her style is not a kind of girlie-thingy style with pastel colors or flowery dress. Instead, it's so much more urban and edgy.

Her style, in some ways, is similar to my fashion choice... The earthy tones and minimalist jewels... something I would wear with ease in daily life.

You definitely will also enjoy reading her blogs (like I do... ^_^  eventhough sometimes I'm a bit confused reading her personal blog, Budu dan Belacan, when she mixed English with Malaysian language.. hehe). My favorite of course her fashion blog, Count the Thread.

Quick Product Review

I just had a gift from Hijab House, Australia. It's a hijab/shawl!

The first thing I love from it is... its print! I've been looking for hijab with this kind of print, the Leopard print... Eventhough it's a very popular print, I don't have one yet until a few weeks ago.. hehe.

It's a square hijab, size: about 120 cm x 120 cm (L). The shawl is a mix of plain hijab and leopard-print soft lace in creme-brown. It looks like two hijabs sewed become one.

The fabric is super soft, cool and breathable. You can wear it through all seasons along the year! :) It's also very easy to wrap.

Really in love with this shawl... it's so comfortable to wear. Two thumbs up for Hijab House for designing this hijab.

It becomes my favorite hijab!

Can't wait to see Hijab House get onlined in the net-sphere.. :) I'm craving to have more pieces of Hijab House collection! The hijab collection are sooo beautiful!

Note: Unfortunately, the colors of wild mesh hijab I received is a bit different from the picture in their Facebook album. I expected color as showed in the pic on Facebook. You can compare the colors from those pics above. The one from HH Facebook's album is more darker/browner than the one I received in reality. Perhaps it's because of the lighting effect..?? However, I still remain loving this shawl... :)


For this season, the theme of Hijab House's latest collection is Library Chic Look, and their most demanded products until now are the signature abaya, maxi cardigan, and their beautiful flowery two-tones hijabs.

British Royal Wedding, April 29th, 2011
Prince William and Ms. Catherine Middleton












Stunning dress! Simply elegantly beautiful, regal. Love the dress so much... If only I had a chance to wear such beautiful dress like that.. ;) Of course, with a necessary modification to suit the Islamic modesty..

The dress was made by a personal collaboration between the bride and her designer, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

From the official press release:

“The lace applique for the bodice and skirt was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework, with individual flowers hand-cut from lace (in shapes of roses, thistle, daffodils and shamrocks). The dress is made of ivory and white satin gazar with a skirt in the shape of an opening flower. The satin bodice, narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips in a McQueen signature, is based on Victorian corsetry. The back is finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons.

The veil, made of ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, is held in place by a 1936 Cartier tiara, lent to Ms. Middleton by the Queen. (It was bought for her mother by the Duke of York and presented to Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday.) Ms. Middleton’s earrings—shaped like oak leaves with a pave set diamond acorn suspended in the center—are by Robinson Pelham. The shoes are also by McQueen.”

On  her head, Catherine wore a Cartier Halo Tiara lent by the Queen. It carried the nuance of simplicity, regalia, and family meaning.

The bouquet was designed by Shane Connolly, and each flower in the bouquet carried a meaning. The flowers' meanings are:

Lily-of-the-valley: Return of happiness

Sweet William: Gallantry

Hyacinth: Constancy of love

Ivy: Fidelity; marriage; wedded love; friendship; affection

Myrtle: the emblem of marriage; love.

Prince William and Princess Catherine

Hope they will live happily ever after..
