Muslim Influence to High Fashion

New York City as one of the world's hubs of high fashion, now far more embracing the Muslim Fashion to their industry.

A startup event, held by RARE by F.S. Charlie teaming up with a Muslim female, New York-based fashion designer, Nailah Lymus, will make history by launching UNDERWRAPS, the first global agency representing Muslim female fashion models, during this year New York Fashion Week.

It is also a proof that Muslim fashion is making its way into the international world of fashion.

Underwraps's roster will debut in a fashion showcase presented by Amirah Creations on February 11th, 2012.

Known for breaking barriers as a Muslim female fashion designer behind Amirah Creations, Nailah Lymus said:
"As a Muslim woman who has also worked in the fashion industry, I observe a heavy Muslim influence in all areas of fashion. Designers, photography, editorials all displaying inspirations from Muslim fashion.

I feel there is a need to shine the light on Muslim women who have been some of the originators of trend setting modest fashion for years. I'm bringing Muslims to mainstream-- covered is the new couture.

Muslim Fashion has had a strong influence in the fashion industry for years - with stylings gracing such coveted magazine covers as Vogue as well as providing inspiration for noteworthy collections including Victoria Beckham's Fall/Winter 2011 line. Islamic models have also brought diversity to the catwalk including the recent model stars Hanaa Ben Abdesslem (Tunisian) and Hindi Sahlial (Moroccan).

UNDERWRAPS is creating a fusion of inclusion - marrying the best of both the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds."

VOGUE's covers showcasing covered styles:

Not only Victoria Beckham's Fall line got inspired by Muslim fashion, some high fashion's designs, such as my favorite Chanel Pre Fall, from 2009 collection to 2012 collection, have been showing interests in covered-style fashion..

Handbags Store (part 1): Dowa

A couple months ago, my aunties came to my city to visit us. Then, during their visit in the city, they asked us to show some handbags stores which sell beautiful designed, unique, high-quality handbags, and better if they also sell batik-ed, ethnic, or other handcrafted bags.

This January, my aunty is going to visit her son and his family in the USA, so at that time, she wanted to bring them some handbags she bought here as souvenirs. She said that she knew they will love those handbags made in Indonesia.. :)

I knew some of the stores which sell those kind of handbags. Perhaps there are many more bags' stores with that specification that I did not know yet. You can share with me if you know other good quality bags' stores, particularly which based in Yogyakarta.

First store we visited was Dowa. They sell beautiful designs of handbags with rich of beautiful color blocking. They also sell knitted bags and clutches, and also pouches.

I love all those colors!

Other handbags stores we visited will be in my next post. So, stick around! ;)

Fashion Newsflash and Hijab Tutorial

I have been so busy lately and have no time to write... As a mom of two boys and a wife, and working on a bit of small entrepreneurial things I'm trying to work out.. are already consuming almost all of my time! I only had a very little time for my "me time".

During this "little me time", I usually fill it out with blogging and reading. I love reading since I was a kid. And blogging.. I love it since I knew it several years ago.. :) These activities make me feel fun and fresh with new knowledge, info, inspirations, entertainment, and sometimes humor I got from them.

But, when it comes to blogging, I got distracted easily.. you know, with so many news and exciting info, I can help it but read them all one by one, and.. when I realized, ohh, my "me time" has run out and I haven't share a thing yet with you guys! :p

(Update: I read in one book that there's a site named ReadItLaterList.com that is useful to save and make a list of what we want to read later. I surely need to check this out.).

Or, I have been too tired to blog after I finished up my "duty" as a mother and a homemaker :)

Sounds cliche? But I definitely sure that many of you, especially Mothers, feel this way.

Many self-development books also have taught us how to be an effective person, how to manage your time effectively, how to be a very good multitasker, how to not get distracted easily when you are working (in my case, blogging) and so on. But still I feel that I am not as effective as I want to be.

So, I have to mind myself to keep learning on this my best.

Okay then, here is today's newsflash for you:

Today, the countdown begins for the launch of new Karl Lagerfeld collection:

KARL COLLECTION RELEASED TOMORROW – The countdown to launch begins! With less than 24 hours until the release date of Karl Lagerfeld's latest collection, Karl's Kult members are taking to the streets of Paris. Excited fans have been congregating around a mysterious cube in Place Saint-Germain des PrĂ©s, eager to catch a glimpse of the new line as unnamed sources claim that King Karl himself will make an appearance. New modest fashion lines come from:

Saby H, a New York based designer coined the word Shehjaab for their fabulous scarves. It is a blend of two words, Shehzaadi, which means princess in Urdu and the word Hijab. Here are some of their scarves I love:

Scarf-Necklaces by House of Sakti

Rectangle 1

A new, unique, scarf-necklaces from House of Sakti is a scarf united with handcrafted healing jewelry (a necklace composed of healing-quality gemstones).

This fabulous long scarf, along with the necklaces, has a circular/infinitive shape. Here, in my city, we used to call this kind of scarf: a tubular scarf.

The scarf is made of 100% cotton.. the fabric is so lightweight, thin, and available in 10 colors.

Purity Of Purpose Scarf Necklace
With their unique, infinitive circular-shape with a necklace, these scarves can be worn in many possible ways. You can wrap it, twist it, just keep playing around with it until you find the style you love.

You can place the necklaces on the front, at the back, or style it up as a headband; Or, wrap the scarf as a bolero.. It is up to you to get creative and be inspired.

Mariam Sobh of HijabTrendz has made a tutorial on how she wrapped her scarf-necklaces. And, she really love to share this tutorial with you all..

Chanel Pre Fall 2012 - Indian Inspired

Style Note from the Runway

Interesting! ... is the first word that crossed my mind when I saw this CHANEL Pre Fall 2012 collection, themed: Paris - Bombay.

Inspired by Indian accessories, this collection can be your inspiration to accessorize your hijab look. Enjoy!

Paris and Bombay blended beautifully in pearl-swagged tweeds, in a raw silk tunic over leggings (they were actually sinuously bootlike, so we should probably call them beggings or loots), in sheer paisleys, or side-draped asymmetry in ivory silk.
