Beautiful Velvet Dress

Susie's Style

Have you know Susie Lau from Style Bubble?  If you haven't already, check out Susie's style blog Style Bubble. It is full of beautiful and inspiring things.

On her latest post, she wore a beautiful velvet gown from House of Dagmar, twisted with a vintage lace crop top, Beyond the Valley kimono, Calvin Klein satin skirt, Alexander Wang wedges.

Ooh... I'm in love with this outfits combo... Love the dress' drapery and the ruffles...

Love how she mixed-matched the clothes' pieces. The result is a gorgeous and very hijab friendly look! :) Check her photoshots here.

Mix - Match Bold Colors With Neutral Tones

Style Inspiration

(Image: Elle.com)
Strong and too many bold colors sometimes look overpowering and messy. Try to 'soften' bold hues with this simple mix-match to smarten up your look.

Simply partner neutral colors with hot pink or crisp blue for a cool, minimalist feel...

Add a hot pink blazer over your outfits to twist your neutral shades look.

Hijab Tutorial: How to Wrap a Dupatta (Indian Suit Scarf)

As a continuation of my last post about Hijab Dupatta, today I post two tutorials on how to tie a Shalwaar Kameez Dupatta (Indian Suit scarf / South Asian traditional scarf), which is commonly very long and slippery, into a hijab.

Here's the tutorials from Amena on her youtube channel:

Hijab Tutorial using a Dupatta with a border.

Here's how to tie the scarf so that the border is visible around your face and neckline:

Hope these tutorials would be useful for you, especially for you who live in South Asia, like India and Bangladesh... :)

Dupatta Hijab

Readers' Style

Nusrat Sami, one of my readers from Bangladesh that I have featured here few days ago, sent me her photograph wearing "dupatta" as her hijab.

She wants to show us how she wears dupatta as hijab. She said to me that the girls in India and Bangladesh who wear Shalwar Kameez (Indian and Bangladeshi suit) find it difficult to drape the dupatta as hijab, as it is too long and not like the usual hijabs we wear. Concerning to this, she said she have found a way to drape dupatta as a hijab in a fashionable way.

What do you think of her style?

Dupatta Hijab
Do you also wear dupatta as your hijab? How is your style?

If you don't know yet what "dupatta" is, here's a bit explanation about it, quoted from Wikipedia:

File:Jaipur-India n001.jpg
Women from Jaipur, India wearing Salwar kameez and dupatta
"Dupatta is a long, multi-purpose scarf that is essential to many South Asian women's suits. Some "dupatta suits" include the shalwar kameez and the kurta. And it has long been a symbol of modesty in South Asian dress. The primary use of a dupatta is to cover the head and/or any inadvertent cleavage and the contour of the bosom."
"However, the use of the dupatta has undergone a metamorphosis over time. In current fashions, the dupatta is frequently draped over one shoulder, and even over just the arms. Another recent trend is the short dupatta often seen with kurtas and Indo-Western clothing. Essentially, the dupatta is often treated as an accessory in current urban fashion."

All in One: Headscarf + T-shirt + Sleeves

Love it or Leave it?

I came across on an online hijab shop, Vinnete House, which sells this kind of hijab named "Simply". A hijab/headscarf that is integrated with t-shirt and sleeves.

(Photos: Vinnete House)

In my opinion, this kind of cover-ups perhaps would make things simple and easy, especially for hijabi that need a quick and easy cover-ups, but I don't think it is stylish.

And I'm wondering, if the hijab is not long enough, as seen on the white hijab, what will happen if we raise our hands? I think the 'hijab's shirt' will open up and we can't move our hands freely. Perhaps it would feel like we open up our t-shirt... ^_^

What do you think about this kind of hijab? Love it or leave it?

Modest Cover Ups with Pinstripes

Spring/Summer 2010

Inspired by Wall Street gravitas, these runway pinstripes will be an investment-worthy to your wardrobes.

You can teaming up the pinstripes with unexpected floaty floral silk dresses, as seen at Roberto Cavalli, or Dustbowl era tea dresses à la Ralph Lauren.

A sharply tailored blazer by Ralph Lauren is well matched with loose jeans, a classic shirt and a brown leather belt. My favorite looks are picture number 2 (pinstripes-suits by Vivienne Westwood... Love the sophisticated cut of the suits), and number 5 (peach-pink dress paired with pinstripes-blazer by Ralph Lauren... Beautifully feminine... and I think the pinstripes-blazer adds a smart tone to the dress).

What do you think? Which look is your favorite?

For this upcoming weekend, merge the look into your weekend wardrobe and wear with roughed-up denim and a classic T-shirt.
