Style Tips from Asma of Haute Muslimah

One of blogs I love is Asma's blog, titled Haute Muslimah. I love most of picked-up styles she put on her blog, from celeb's or runway Haute Couture... very inspiring and fabulous. Recently, Asma sent me her top tips in style that she'd like to share to all Fashioning Faith's readers. She also gave a bit words on what Haute Muslimah is all about.

According to Asma,
"At Haute Muslimah, Muslim women can find ideas on how to wear clothes, where to buy them, and how to put them together. It's a place to find trends, and items you see on the runway and in high fashion, and how to incorporate those pieces of clothing into their Islamic lives."
So, visit Haute Muslimah to check out more 'haute' on Muslimah style! :)

And here are a few style tips from Asma:

-Keep your look as simple as you can.
You want to look unfussy. Many hijabis just layer and layer so many clothes together that it loses any sense of style or elegance. Try to keep layering to a minimum, unless it's winter :)
-Be creative with hijabs and the way you wear them. Use hijab pins and bands around your hijab to pull your look together.
-You don't have to be matchy matchy with everything in your closet. Your shoes, belt, bag, and hijab do not have to all match. Try wearing colors that compliment each other well.
-My personal favorite: Keep a variety of cardigans in your closet for all occasions. Simple ones, fancy ones, light and heavier ones as well. They'll come in handy as a cute cover-up.

Want to share your style tips too? Just send in your advice and tips, photos, or anything to do with Muslimah style that inspires you to: fashioningfaith@gmail.com
Hope it would be helpful for other Muslimahs! :)

Inside Fashion Tips: How To Walk in Heels

I remembered my previous post recently about unique heels on New York Fashion Week September 2010, when I showed you some fabulous heels but I wasn't sure I can walk wearing them without twisting my ankles or not... ;) Yes, I'm serious! I used to wear flats, low kitten heels, low thick heels, sandals, or sport shoes. As far as I know, as muslimah we can wear high heels as long as the heels do not make such a loud sound (noisy) when they are wore to walk.

This is some inside fashion information I found from InStyle.com on how to walk in heels. Hope this would be useful for you who have been dreaming of wearing high heels... like me! ;)

Muslimah Street Style: Simple, but Somehow I Love Her Look

(Photos: taken by me)

Regardless her top's sleeves that didn't full cover her arms, this girl was very pleased to be looked ;)

The outfit was simple, and even had sense that it wasn't a 'matchy-matchy'... but, in some way I love it. I love the way she mixed-matched the colors and prints: STRIPES combined with this season's hot trend, LEOPARD PRINT on skirt. She also pulled up a WHITE LACE hijab and a small silver-pink bag to complete her outfit.

But the important thing is she looked happy and comfort in it.

The outfits actually simple, but jazzed up a bit by using a textured fabrics, folded construction, or by adding ruffle details on skirt and a big pocket, or using bold colors. With white socks and shoes like that, they look like school girls... ^_^

Great Interview on HijabTrendz: Behind The Scenes of Maysaa

Kimono Wrap Maxi Dress
Kimono wrap maxi dress

Hana-Tajima Simpson has became really popular due to her amazing style blog, StyleCovered and her clothing brand 'Maysaa', where she shows her design works.

I love Maysaa's clothing line. I admire the cut and the drapery of the clothes... So beautiful, chic, and elegant. I think I really need one of Maysaa's jersey maxi dress as a staple piece in my wardrobe! ;)

Recently HijabTrendz posted a great interview on Hana-Tajima, the designer and CEO of Maysaa. It was a great interview! Both of the questions and the responses were excellent... so inspirational! It's really nice to know what thoughts that stand behind great designs.

If you haven't read the interview, check it out here.

As Hana said on that interview, Maysaa's first collection was launched as the bones of a wardrobe, so the designs have a sense of being timeless (hmm... that's why they look simple, plain, and classic). Then, every end of the year, they will introduce NEW styles, but from then they still will add a few fresh pieces every couple of weeks or so. She also said that at the end of this year there gonna be lots more color and the designs will be more intricate, but still gloriously understated.

So, what do you think? Can't wait to see the NEW styles? Stay tune for Maysaa's latest styles on their website, Maysaa.com!

Another Modest Look from Mary-Kate Olsen, and A Hijab Tutorial

Mary-Kate Olsen at the front row of Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2010 Show at London Fashion Week on September 22, 2009, in London.

I found this photo from last year London Fashion Week's front row-photos. I know that right now the NEW season of London Fashion Week is running, so why don't I put new photos from London Fashion Week? ^_^ InshaAllah I would share some runways stuffs I love from it on my next post...

Mary-Kate Olsen looks stunning in this photo. This look never gets old. It's a classic timeless look that I love. A plain black outfit with sunglasses... and her gold hair (we can pretend it as a scarf) looks contrast with her outfits. She also jazz up her look with beautiful big rings and a unique long necklace.

To make it a hijab-ready, you just need to pop up a bit 'bling-bling' GOLD Scarf around your head.
Here's also a video tutorial on wrapping evening hijab style from the beautiful YazTheSpaz89 on youtube channel, that I think the hijab used in this video's color and fabric suit the look above.

What do you think?

Pictures of Ramadhan 1431 H / 2010

I know that perhaps it's been already late for pictures of Ramadan. Eid is just around the corner right now, but I think I just want to share a bit of Ramadan atmosphere from my daily life ... ^_^
I'm gonna miss it after Eid.

Here's the pictures of environment near my home... Beautiful! isn't it? :)

Rice fields

Two girls in hijab and school uniform riding their bikes.

In the afternoon, children prepare themself to go to the mosque to learn Iqro' and reading Qur'an. And then they will have iftar and do 'maghrib' shalat together. There are some joy and excitement from them! :)

 Minutes before 'maghrib' (breaking fast):

Traffic jam. It looks as if ALL people go outside their house! :) They were looking for something for 'iftar' (food/treats for breaking fast)
Buyers and sellers... ;) There are many motorcycles here...

Many many "Fruits soup" sellers...

Most of restaurants are full of people, even an hour before 'maghrib adzan' (time to breaking fast)... ^_^
Breaking fast at a Steak Restaurant:

Most of them are students.

People were breaking fast at the edge of the main streets:
I'm sorry, the photoshots are blur... it's because my camera didn't work well... ;)

(Photoshots are taken by me)

Hmm... would you like to visit my hometown and feel the atmosphere of Ramadan here? ^_^

Hope you all are enjoying the blessings of Ramadan!
